Home to gorgeous mountain, fresh air, and some of the most beautiful real estate on earth! Woodstock, one of the most famous small towns, also known as “Colony of the Arts” combines small town magic with the sophistication of the city. We have NYC caliber restaurants, Byrdcliffe (site of the original art colony) and Overlook mountain in our backyard. Woodstock is rich in history and cultural heritage, still apparent in its world-class arts life and historic homes. Back in the nineteenth century, long before our present fame, the Woodstock, NY area was known internationally as a center for American artists and crafts people.
The Arts & Crafts movement came to Woodstock in 1902, with the arrival of Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead and Hervey White. Ever since, Woodstock has been considered an active artists colony, and shortly afterward the Art Students League of New York City opened a summer school here. Hervey White started the Maverick Concerts & it is the oldest running outdoor concerts in the country. Today we are home to galleries that are widely noted for exhibits of the finest arts and crafts. To complete the artistic environment we also have important music venues upon whose stages distinguished rock, classical, jazz and popular music is regularly performed. All of this is set amid the most beautiful scenery on earth.
